In the early hours of May 27, the Russian military launched a significant drone assault on Ukraine, deploying a total of 163 strike drones, including models known as Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and imitation drones dubbed ‘Parody.’ This operation was reported by the Ukrainian Air Force.
The Ukrainian defense forces engaged in aerial combat, successfully neutralizing 150 of the incoming drones. The attack originated from multiple locations within Russia, including Kursk, Bryansk, Orel, Millerovo, and Shatalovo.
By 08:30 local time, Ukrainian air defense systems, which included aviation units, surface-to-air missile forces, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups, had effectively intercepted or suppressed the majority of the Russian drones across the northern, southern, and eastern regions of the country.
Despite the successful defense, eight strike drones managed to reach their targets, impacting seven distinct locations. Additionally, debris from the intercepted drones fell in four other areas.
“Several enemy drones remain in the airspace. Please adhere to safety regulations,” the Ukrainian Air Force advised.
