Ukraine’s Air Defense Intercepts Majority of Russian Drone and Missile Attack

In the early hours of April 25, Russia launched a significant aerial assault on Ukraine, deploying 619 strike drones of various types, including Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas, alongside 47 missiles from air, sea, and ground platforms. Ukrainian Air Force reported that its defense systems successfully intercepted 580 drones and 30 missiles during this operation.

The attack was primarily directed at the Dnipro region, with additional strikes reported in Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Odesa, and Kyiv. Ukrainian forces employed a combination of aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups to counter the assault.

Details of the Russian Attack

  • 12 ballistic missiles of the Iskander-M/S-400 variety;
  • 29 cruise missiles of the X-101 type;
  • 1 cruise missile of the Iskander-K type;
  • 5 cruise missiles of the Kalibr type;
  • 619 strike drones of various types.

As of 8:00 AM, preliminary reports indicated that Ukrainian air defenses had neutralized a total of 610 targets, comprising 30 missiles and 580 drones. This included 26 X-101 cruise missiles and 4 Kalibr cruise missiles.

Additionally, the Ukrainian Air Force noted that the attack resulted in impacts from 13 missiles and 36 strike drones across 23 locations, with debris from drones falling in nine areas. There is ongoing verification regarding four missiles, and further information on impacts has yet to be received. Meanwhile, the aerial assault continues, with several new groups of strike drones entering Ukrainian airspace.
