Ukraine Welcomes US-Iran Agreement as Catalyst for Peace Efforts

Ukraine has expressed optimism regarding the recent agreement between the United States and Iran, viewing it as a potential catalyst for renewed peace efforts aimed at curbing Russian aggression. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha shared these sentiments on social media platform X.

“Ukraine welcomes the agreement between the US and Iran, as well as President Trump’s leadership in achieving it,” Sybiha stated.

He emphasized the hope that this agreement could serve as a solid foundation for lasting peace in the region, ensuring the protection of human lives and the stabilization of the global economy. Sybiha pointed out the importance of restoring free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz to maintain stability in energy markets, rather than providing new opportunities for aggressors. He highlighted freedom of navigation as a fundamental principle of international order.

“In Ukraine, we also see this as an impetus and an opportunity for the United States to intensify peace efforts aimed at ending Russian aggression against Ukraine. American leadership is critically important for concluding this war,” he added.

According to Sybiha, the topic of peace efforts will be a central theme during the upcoming meeting between the Presidents of Ukraine and the United States in Évian, coinciding with the G7 summit. He noted that both in the Middle East and in Ukraine, the key principle is to work not only towards ending the war but also to ensure lasting peace and prevent the recurrence of aggression. Ukraine, he affirmed, is prepared to make every possible effort in this regard.

On June 14, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called Trump to congratulate him on his 80th birthday. During this conversation, they discussed negotiations aimed at concluding the war between Russia and Ukraine and agreed to meet at the G7 summit.

Both Zelenskyy and Trump attended the G7 summit on June 15.

French President Emmanuel Macron indicated that participants at the summit plan to discuss support for Kyiv, the conclusion of the war, the situation surrounding Iran, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Ukraine's Foreign Minister welcomed the US-Iran agreement, viewing it as a pivotal moment for peace efforts against Russian aggression. The upcoming G7 summit is expected to focus on these themes, emphasizing the need for lasting stability in both the Middle East and Ukraine.
