The Ukrainian wrestling team concluded its participation in the 2026 European Championships in Tirana, achieving remarkable success with a total of 11 medals: six gold, one silver, and four bronze. This performance marks a significant improvement from last year, where the team secured four golds and five bronzes, finishing second overall.
Competing from April 20 to 26, Ukraine sent a full contingent of 30 athletes, with ten representatives in each wrestling category: men’s and women’s freestyle, as well as Greco-Roman wrestling. This year, the team not only excelled in individual performances but also topped the medal table for the first time in history.
In the 2026 championships, Ukraine emerged as the leading team, surpassing its previous best of second place. The achievement is particularly noteworthy as it is the first time Ukraine has led the medal standings at this event.

- Gold: Oksana Liavach (women’s freestyle, 50 kg), Maria Yefremova (women’s freestyle, 53 kg), Maria Vynnyk (women’s freestyle, 59 kg), Iryna Kolyadenko (women’s freestyle, 65 kg), Nadiia Sokolovska (women’s freestyle, 72 kg), Anastasiia Alpiieva (women’s freestyle, 76 kg).
- Silver: Liliia Malanchuk (women’s freestyle, 55 kg).

This total of 11 medals is Ukraine’s best performance in wrestling at the European Championships in 12 years, a notable improvement from previous years. The last time the team achieved a similar tally was when they won 11 medals, including two golds.
