Ukraine Defends Against Russian Air Assault Involving Missiles and Drones

In the early hours of May 28, Ukraine faced a significant aerial assault from Russia, which included the launch of a Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missile and 147 strike drones of various types. The missile was reportedly fired from the airspace of Lipetsk Oblast, while the drones originated from multiple locations including Bryansk, Kursk, and Crimea.

The Ukrainian Air Force confirmed that its air defense systems successfully intercepted 138 of the incoming drones, which included models such as Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas. The defense efforts were supported by aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups.

As of 08:00 local time, preliminary reports indicated that the air defense had neutralized a substantial number of the attacking drones. Furthermore, there were confirmed impacts from the Kinzhal missile and nine strike drones across seven sites, with debris reported in six locations.

This incident marks a continuation of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, highlighting the persistent threat posed by aerial attacks. The Ukrainian military remains on high alert as it seeks to safeguard its airspace against further incursions.
