Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on April 14 that U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of former President Donald Trump, are expected to visit Ukraine. This statement was made during a press conference with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in Oslo.
Zelensky indicated that while no specific dates for the visit have been confirmed, the discussions with Witkoff and Kushner earlier in April were positive. He noted, “They told me at the very beginning of April—on the 1st or 2nd—that they would come.”
The President emphasized the significance of their visit, stating that it would send a strong signal to the Ukrainian public, especially considering that these figures have previously visited Moscow. He remarked, “We will be waiting for them at any time when they are ready, but I think their focus is currently on Iran and the Middle East. In any case, it is important for us to maintain contact with the Americans.”
Prior to this announcement, Zelensky had a conversation on April 1 with American negotiators Witkoff and Kushner, along with Senator Lindsey Graham and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. Zelensky described the dialogue as constructive, with agreements made to enhance security guarantees for Ukraine. He instructed his team to update relevant documents in light of these discussions.
President Zelensky confirmed the planned visit of U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Ukraine, highlighting its importance for maintaining U.S.-Ukrainian relations. The discussions prior to the announcement focused on enhancing security guarantees for Ukraine amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions.
