Sweden’s Foreign Minister, Maria Malmer Stenergard, has condemned the recent coordinated missile and drone attacks carried out by Russia against Ukraine on June 2. In a statement posted on social media platform X, she expressed her outrage over the assault, which targeted multiple cities.
Stenergard stated,
“Sweden condemns yesterday’s treacherous attack by Russia on several Ukrainian cities, resulting in numerous casualties and injuries.”
She emphasized that this incident further illustrates Russia’s lack of genuine intentions for peace.
In her remarks, she added,
“Russia will not intimidate us or deter our support for Ukraine, nor will it lessen the pressure we place on Russia.”
The attacks on June 2 involved a significant barrage of missiles and drones, affecting cities including Kyiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Sumy. Reports indicate that approximately 130 individuals were injured, and 22 people lost their lives, including two children.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, over 650 attack drones of various types were deployed by the Russian military, along with 73 missiles launched from air, sea, and ground platforms. Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepted 602 drones and 40 missiles during the assault.
The strikes resulted in 30 ballistic missiles, three cruise missiles, and 33 attack drones hitting 38 locations, with debris from drones falling in fifteen areas.
