Suspect Arrested in Fatal Kyiv Car Crash That Claimed Four Lives

On June 8, a district court in Kyiv ordered the arrest of 49-year-old Pavlo Pleshyvtsiv for 60 days without the option of bail. He is suspected of causing a deadly traffic accident that resulted in the deaths of four individuals.

During the court proceedings, Pleshyvtsiv was present in a wheelchair. His attorney, Yevhen Melhychenko, indicated that the suspect is deeply affected by the incident. Currently, Pleshyvtsiv is detained in a hospital.

“He is not very satisfied that he survived. We have no objections to his detention. However, my client is already effectively in custody at the hospital, and the situation will be more complicated in a pre-trial detention center,”

Melhychenko stated.

Pleshyvtsiv claims he lost consciousness at the time of the crash.

On June 5, police reported a traffic accident in the Solomianskyi district of Kyiv around 5:30 PM. According to the investigation, the driver lost control of his vehicle at high speed, crashing into an underground passage where several people were present. The collision resulted in the immediate deaths of two men, a woman, and a 12-year-old boy. Additionally, three others sustained injuries.

Authorities later confirmed that among the deceased were two police officers: Senior Lieutenant Dmytro Bondarchuk and Lieutenant Denys Budchenko, who were on duty at the time of the incident.

A 49-year-old man has been arrested following a tragic car crash in Kyiv that resulted in four fatalities, including two police officers. The suspect is currently hospitalized and faces serious charges related to the incident.
