Spain has committed to delivering 100 VAMTAC armored tactical vehicles and a shipment of 155mm artillery ammunition to Ukraine by 2026. This announcement was made by Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles during her meeting with Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov in Kyiv.
Robles stated that the delivery of the armored vehicles is set to begin in May and that these units will be utilized by Ukrainian border guards. She emphasized that this collaboration reflects Spain’s dedication to upholding democratic values, freedom, and the pursuit of lasting peace.
Additionally, Robles noted that the number of Ukrainian military personnel trained in Spain is expected to surpass 9,000 this month. This training initiative aims to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities amid ongoing conflicts.
Reznikov expressed gratitude for Spain’s support, particularly highlighting the contribution of Patriot missiles provided under the PURL program. Spain has allocated €100 million for these missiles, which were purchased from the United States before being transferred to Ukraine.
Robles arrived in Kyiv on April 22 for a working visit, where she paid tribute to fallen Ukrainian defenders and discussed further military and humanitarian assistance for Ukraine.
