Shooting Incident in Cherkasy Linked to Children Picking Lilacs

A shooting incident in Cherkasy has drawn police attention following reports that a man fired a weapon after children picked lilacs from his property. The event occurred on May 9 in a residential area of the city.

Zoya Vovk, a spokesperson for the Main Directorate of the National Police in the region, confirmed that no emergency calls were received regarding the incident. Instead, police learned of the situation through social media monitoring and subsequently recorded the information in their official logs.

“There were no calls to the emergency line 102. Officers discovered the information while monitoring social networks and entered the details into the unified registry. An investigation has been initiated. Preliminary reports indicate that the conflict arose because children were picking lilacs near a private residence,”

Vovk stated. She further explained that the man attempted to chase the minors, and when he was unsuccessful, he retrieved a pistol from his home and began firing. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.

Law enforcement officials are currently working to identify the shooter. A legal assessment of his actions will be conducted once all circumstances surrounding the incident are clarified, Vovk added.
