Russian Drone Strike Hits Konotop, Injuring Several Residents

In the early hours of May 20, Russian forces launched a drone attack on the city of Konotop in the Sumy region of Ukraine, resulting in significant damage and multiple injuries. Buildings including a high-rise apartment complex, a city hospital, and a museum were impacted by the strikes.

According to Oleg Grygorov, the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, at least six individuals sustained injuries during the assault. The attack specifically targeted the Shostka community, raising concerns about civilian safety.

As of 2:40 AM, rescue operations were ongoing, as reported by the city’s mayor, Artem Semenikhin. He indicated that three floors of an apartment building had collapsed due to the drone strike.

“Behind me is a five-story building. Parts of it are missing. And there are people inside,” Semenikhin stated in a video shared on his Telegram channel.

At around 2:00 AM, three injuries had already been confirmed from another strike in the city. The mayor noted that windows were shattered in the city hospital, and various administrative buildings and homes also suffered damage.

Residents reported hearing over ten explosions as the attacks began shortly after 1:20 AM on May 20.

A drone strike by Russian forces on Konotop resulted in injuries and significant damage to residential and public buildings. Ongoing rescue efforts are addressing the aftermath of the attack.
