Moscow Claims Interception of Drones Targeting the City

The Mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, announced that Russian air defense systems reportedly intercepted 25 drones approaching the capital. Initially, he stated that six drones had been shot down, but later revised the figure to 25.

Sobyanin indicated that emergency services are currently responding to the sites where debris has fallen. This incident follows a significant attack on June 18, when Ukrainian drones breached Moscow’s layered air defenses, targeting a major oil refinery in Kapotnya, resulting in a large fire.

Russian media have characterized this assault as one of the most extensive in the past two years. In the wake of the attack, Estonia’s Foreign Minister, Margus Tsahkna, highlighted a viral image that emerged online related to the incident at the refinery.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has commented on the recent strikes against Moscow, asserting that pressure to end the conflict should not come solely from Ukrainians but also from Americans, Europeans, and the Russian populace.

Moscow's Mayor reported the interception of 25 drones targeting the city, following a significant Ukrainian attack on an oil refinery. The incident underscores ongoing tensions and military activities in the region.
