Rocket Strike Hits Italian UN Base in Lebanon

The Italian Ministry of Defense has reported a rocket strike on the Italian contingent’s base, known as “Shama,” which is part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The attack resulted in damage to the base’s infrastructure, although there have been no reports of injuries among Italian personnel.

Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto is in contact with military leaders, including the Chief of General Staff and the commander of the Italian contingent, to receive ongoing updates about the situation and the well-being of the troops.

In a related development, Poland has initiated an investigation into an explosion in Lebanon that injured a Polish UN peacekeeper. This incident highlights the ongoing volatility in the region, which has seen increased military activity.

In March, leaders from France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Canada urged Israel to refrain from conducting a ground operation in Lebanon. This call came after the Israel Defense Forces announced the commencement of “limited and targeted ground operations” against key Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon.

An Italian UN base in Lebanon was struck by a rocket, damaging infrastructure but causing no reported injuries. This incident occurs amid heightened military tensions in the region, including ongoing investigations into related attacks on peacekeepers.
