Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed a willingness to declare a ceasefire during a recent phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump. The discussion, which lasted approximately 90 minutes, was confirmed by Yuri Ushakov, an aide to Putin.
During the call, Putin raised concerns about alleged Ukrainian attacks on civilian targets within Russia. He reiterated that while Russia aims to achieve its objectives in the ongoing conflict, it prefers to do so through negotiations.
Trump reportedly supported the idea of a ceasefire, stating that a formal agreement to end the war in Ukraine is “close.” This dialogue comes amid ongoing efforts by various international leaders to mediate peace talks.
In recent developments, Trump mentioned that he has been having “good conversations” with both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Putin. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has also confirmed Turkey’s readiness to facilitate the next round of negotiations aimed at resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
On April 25, Zelensky indicated Ukraine’s openness to a new round of peace talks with Russia, suggesting that these discussions could take place in a trilateral format in Azerbaijan.
