The Kyiv Patrol Police reported that officers were compelled to use their service weapons to halt a driver fleeing from a traffic stop in the Pechersk district. The incident occurred on Budindustriyi Street, where the driver struck a police officer and collided with both a police vehicle and a parked car.
According to police, while patrolling the Pechersk area, they noticed an Alfa Romeo that was violating traffic regulations. When officers signaled for the driver to stop, he ignored the request and accelerated. During the pursuit, the driver hit a police officer and crashed into a police car, as well as a parked Mercedes.
To enforce a stop, police resorted to discharging their firearms, although they confirmed that no injuries resulted from the shooting.
Authorities indicated that the driver exhibited signs of intoxication but refused to undergo a sobriety test. It was revealed that this was the second time within a year that the individual had driven under the influence and that he had been previously stripped of his driving privileges by court order due to drunk driving.
The driver was detained, and administrative protocols were initiated against him for failing to comply with a stop order, leaving the scene of an accident, repeated driving under the influence within a year, and traffic violations that led to the accident. Additionally, investigators have filed charges against him under Article 342, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for resisting law enforcement officers.
