Суспільне Мовлення has announced the opening of applications for the second annual Irina Tsybukh Support Program for Young Journalists. This initiative aims to empower young journalists from various regions of Ukraine to develop their skills, particularly in reporting on war, memory, and public trust.
Applications will be accepted until June 21, 2026.
“This program is about shaping a new generation of Ukrainian journalism that can responsibly and respectfully engage with the realities of war. We want young journalists from the regions to have the opportunity to grow in their profession while upholding the values of service, memory, and involvement in meaningful transformative processes. This was once crucial for Irina in building SUSPILNE,” said Maria Frey, a board member responsible for information and regional content at SUSPILNE.
Three selected participants will receive a three-month internship at the central newsroom of SUSPILNE News in Kyiv. The internship will include personal mentorship from journalists Olena Removska, Oksana Seniv, and Anastasia Ivantsi, opportunities to create their own journalistic pieces, field trips to regional branches of SUSPILNE, and a study visit to Sweden to learn about public broadcasting.
Interns will focus on trauma-sensitive journalism, memorialization, war reporting, analysis, fact-checking, and combating misinformation.
The selection process will involve multiple stages: application submission, completion of an online course, preparation of a journalistic piece, interviews, and final assessments. Young journalists aged 25 and under are eligible to apply.
“Last year, we saw significant interest in the program, and we expect even more applications from motivated youth this year. Based on our previous experience, we are enhancing the program with new practical activities and opportunities for international exposure that will help participants immerse themselves deeper into the profession. We sincerely invite youth from the regions who envision their career in quality, independent, and socially significant journalism to apply,” said Yevheniya Haifer, program manager.
The Irina Tsybukh Support Program for Young Journalists is an annual initiative launched by SUSPILNE in 2025. It begins on June 1, coinciding with Irina Tsybukh’s birthday, and aims to support a new generation of media professionals from Ukraine’s regions, promote independent media, and continue the values championed by Irina Tsybukh: responsible journalism, memory work, and service to society. More information about the outcomes of the 2025 program can be found here.
