The government of Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region has announced the establishment of a new ministry aimed at safeguarding critical infrastructure from potential drone threats. This decision, revealed on May 30, follows a directive signed by Governor Gleb Nikitin.
According to the regional government, the newly formed Ministry of Object Protection will be overseen by Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Tujilin, who will also manage the Ministry of Energy and Housing and Communal Services. The restructuring aims to enhance the region’s defense capabilities amid ongoing tensions related to the conflict in Ukraine.
The directive also includes a reorganization of personnel, with two officials being assigned to report directly to one of the governor’s deputies. One of these officials will be responsible for matters associated with the ongoing military operation in Ukraine.
For context, Nizhny Novgorod is located over 600 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, highlighting the regional government’s proactive approach to perceived security threats.
