Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu Plans to End U.S. Military Aid in a Decade

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced his intention to completely eliminate the $3.8 billion in annual military aid from the United States within the next ten years. In an interview with CBS News, he affirmed the need for Israel to reassess its financial ties with the U.S.

When asked if it was time to reconsider these financial relations, Netanyahu responded affirmatively, indicating that he has already communicated this desire to U.S. President Donald Trump. He stated, “I want to bring American financial support to zero, the financial component of our military cooperation. We receive $3.8 billion a year, and I believe it is time for us to give up the rest of our military support.”

Netanyahu aims to initiate this process immediately, although he has set a timeline of ten years for its completion. His comments come amid a noticeable decline in support for Israel among the American public. A recent Pew Research survey revealed that 60% of American adults hold a negative view of Israel, marking an increase of nearly 20 percentage points since four years ago, a shift attributed to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Additionally, Netanyahu has previously remarked on the unresolved conflict with Iran, suggesting that further developments could arise at any moment. His statements reflect a significant shift in Israel’s approach to its military funding and its relationship with the U.S.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to phase out U.S. military aid over the next decade, citing a need for financial independence. This announcement comes as support for Israel declines among Americans, particularly in light of recent conflicts.
