Israeli Airstrikes Target Hezbollah in Beirut Suburb Amid Rising Tensions

Israeli military forces conducted airstrikes against Hezbollah positions in the southern Beirut suburb of Dahieh, as confirmed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This operation was described as a direct response to rocket fire aimed at Israeli territory.

Netanyahu stated that he personally approved the strikes in coordination with Defense Minister Israel Katz, targeting Hezbollah infrastructure which Israel deems a threat to its security. He emphasized that Israel will not tolerate any attacks on its territory and is prepared to respond decisively to such actions.

The airstrikes occurred just before a potential agreement between the United States and Iran, with Tehran being a significant ally and supporter of Hezbollah. This escalation in Lebanon could have broader implications for regional stability and ongoing diplomatic efforts regarding Iran.

On June 11, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a “great deal” had been reached with Iran, which he claimed would end a three-month-long conflict. He expressed optimism about signing the agreement in the coming days, possibly in Europe, once all documents are finalized.

Previously, Trump had canceled planned strikes on Iran just hours after threatening a strong military response. This followed two nights of U.S. military attacks on Iranian targets, with Iran retaliating against U.S. bases in the Middle East.

Despite the recent military actions, both sides have not officially declared an end to the ceasefire established in early April. On June 10, the Board of Governors of the IAEA, the UN’s nuclear watchdog, passed a U.S.-backed resolution demanding Iran confirm its enriched uranium stockpile and allow inspectors into the country. Iran’s ambassador to Austria, Reza Najafi, criticized the resolution as “counterproductive” and detrimental to negotiations with Washington.

During a recent Security Council meeting on the Middle East, UN Secretary-General António Guterres suggested that an imperfect ceasefire is preferable to a return to full-scale war. Since April 8, Tehran and Washington have been engaged in negotiations following the cessation of the U.S.-Israeli bombing campaign against Iran.

Israeli airstrikes in Beirut targeted Hezbollah in response to rocket fire, as tensions rise ahead of a potential U.S.-Iran agreement. The situation could impact regional stability and ongoing diplomatic negotiations.
