The Sumy Regional Police are investigating an incident involving a grenade explosion in Okhtyrka, reported on May 10. Authorities received a call regarding a man armed with a grenade on one of the city’s streets.
Police units, including patrol response officers, a district police officer, and a representative from the criminal police, quickly arrived at the scene. During negotiations with law enforcement, the individual activated the grenade, resulting in an explosion.
The blast caused injuries to the man himself, three police officers, and one civilian. All injured parties have been hospitalized for treatment. A forensic investigation team is currently working at the site to gather evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the event.
This incident follows a similar event on April 30 in Bila Tserkva, Kyiv region, where a local resident threw a military grenade, RGD-5, over the fence of a regional military enlistment center. That explosion did not result in any injuries, but authorities suspect that the individual may have been influenced by Russian intelligence services.
