Fuel Sales Halted in Occupied Crimea Amid Ongoing Shortages

On June 21, Sergei Aksyonov, the head of the occupying authority in Crimea, announced a complete suspension of fuel sales to private individuals and non-governmental enterprises on the peninsula. This decision, effective from 9:00 AM, restricts the sale of fuel at gas stations to state services only, which are deemed essential for the functioning and security of the Republic of Crimea.

Aksyonov communicated this development via social media, stating that further updates regarding the situation in the fuel market would be provided as necessary.

Earlier that day, reports emerged of drone attacks targeting the Kerch ferry crossing, which connects Crimea to Russia, as well as a fuel depot in Kerch. These incidents have contributed to the ongoing fuel shortages in the region.

Since early June, Crimea has faced a significant fuel deficit, attributed to attacks by Ukrainian Armed Forces on fuel trucks and other cargo vehicles supplying the peninsula via the R-280 highway. This route links Crimea to Rostov Oblast through occupied areas of Kherson, Zaporizhia, and Donetsk.

Two weeks prior, the sale of gasoline for cash was entirely prohibited, allowing purchases only through rationed coupons, which have also become scarce. The recent measures eliminate even this limited option for residents and businesses.

The authorities in Crimea have announced a complete halt to fuel sales for private individuals and non-governmental entities, citing ongoing shortages exacerbated by recent attacks. The measures reflect a deteriorating situation in the region's fuel supply chain.
