A local resident, Natalia Matviyiv, recounted her experience during the explosion, describing it as a powerful blast akin to a grenade detonating. She noted that windows shattered in nearby apartments and that she rushed to assist a neighbor whose ceiling had collapsed.
“I was in the kitchen when the explosion occurred. We ran out onto the balcony. All the neighbors’ windows blew out. I went to check on a neighbor, and her ceiling fell from the ninth to the eighth floor. She managed to escape with her two cats. We called for an ambulance, police, and firefighters. Something definitely exploded, but I’m not sure what it was,” Matviyiv said.
Oleg Muzyka, head of the homeowners’ association, confirmed that a woman was hospitalized with injuries. He indicated that she may have sustained a leg injury and is undergoing an X-ray to assess her condition.
“Neighbors called to inform me that the ceiling collapsed from the ninth to the eighth floor, and there was a fire. As far as I know, the woman in the apartment was taken by ambulance. If everything is fine after the X-ray, she will be sent home,” Muzyka explained.
Discussions are ongoing regarding the next steps following the explosion, including the potential relocation of residents. Muzyka mentioned that he has already consulted with the Shevchenkivska administration, and it is likely that the injured woman will return to her apartment after treatment, as parts of her home, including one room and the kitchen, remain undamaged.
