EU Approves €2.8 Billion Payment to Ukraine Under Ukraine Facility

The European Council has approved a payment of nearly €2.8 billion to Ukraine as part of the Ukraine Facility. This decision reflects Ukraine’s successful implementation of eleven out of twenty required steps for this seventh tranche.

According to the European Council’s press service, Ukraine has also fulfilled several outstanding requirements, including one necessary for the fifth tranche and two for the sixth tranche. Additionally, Ukraine has completed some steps ahead of schedule, including two steps for both the eighth and ninth tranches.

The European Commission has introduced a new methodology that allows Ukraine to receive compensation for this early compliance for the first time. The payments under the Ukraine Facility are linked to a strategic plan outlining Ukraine’s recovery, reconstruction, and modernization efforts, as well as a timeline for implementing reforms aligned with its EU accession goals.

This latest payment follows a previous tranche of approximately €2.3 billion made in December 2025. Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko expressed gratitude to European partners for their support and trust, noting that the European Commission positively assessed Ukraine’s progress on the plan for the fourth quarter of 2025.

Svyrydenko highlighted that as of the end of May 2026, a total of 86 steps of the Ukraine plan have been completed, with another 65 currently in progress. She reaffirmed the commitment to continue implementing reforms and advancing towards European integration.

Since the Ukraine Facility was established in 2024, Ukraine has received a total of €26.8 billion. The facility is designed to support Ukraine over a four-year period, with a total funding allocation of approximately €50 billion.

The European Council has sanctioned a €2.8 billion payment to Ukraine, marking progress in the country's reform efforts. This payment is part of a broader support strategy linked to Ukraine's EU accession goals.
