Drone Strike Targets Bus in Eastern Ukraine, Casualties Reported

In a recent incident in the occupied region of Donetsk, a drone reportedly attacked a bus traveling from Moscow to Simferopol, resulting in multiple casualties. Initial reports from Denis Pushilin, the head of the Russian-controlled area, indicated that seven people died, with later updates raising the death toll to eight and eleven others injured.

Following the attack, the Russian Foreign Ministry condemned the incident as a “terrorist act.” In response, the Russian Investigative Committee announced the initiation of a criminal case regarding the attack. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov informed that President Vladimir Putin had been briefed on what he termed a “terrorist attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the bus.”

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has not commented on these claims. However, earlier on June 3, they confirmed strikes on an oil terminal in St. Petersburg and damage to ships and infrastructure in the port of Kronstadt.

Amid these accusations, the Ukrainian Center for Countering Disinformation stated that Russia is attempting to create a false narrative about alleged Ukrainian attacks on civilians to justify its own actions. This assertion highlights the ongoing information warfare between the two sides.

Analysis from the project “Donbas. Realities” by Radio Free Europe noted that local Telegram channels featured comments questioning the bus’s route, given that Yenakiieve is located only 40 kilometers from the front line. Observers speculated that those on board were not merely tourists heading to Simferopol.

A representative from the bus company told Polish journalists that the route was considered safe and was in demand among passengers traveling to occupied territories. However, it was not clarified whether the passengers included only civilians or military personnel.

Recently, Ukrainian forces have intensified drone strikes targeting Russian military logistics deep within occupied territories, including areas around Donetsk and Luhansk, as well as along the route from Rostov-on-Don to occupied Crimea. Ukraine maintains that its strikes are focused solely on military vehicles and cargo, including fuel trucks.

A drone strike in the occupied Donetsk region targeted a bus, leading to multiple fatalities and injuries. The incident has sparked a series of accusations and counterclaims between Russian and Ukrainian officials, reflecting the ongoing conflict and information warfare.
