Ukrainian Air Defense Intercepts 147 Russian Drones in Overnight Assault

In the early hours of April 2, Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepted a significant number of Russian drones, downing 147 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), including approximately 120 Shahed drones. This operation was confirmed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The attack involved a total of 172 strike drones, comprising various models such as Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas, launched by Russian military forces. Ukrainian defense units engaged the drones using a combination of aviation support, surface-to-air missile systems, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups.

  • As of 08:00, preliminary reports indicated that Ukrainian air defense had successfully neutralized or suppressed 147 Russian drones across northern, southern, and eastern regions of the country.
  • However, 22 of the strike drones managed to reach 12 targets, with debris from downed drones impacting eight locations.

Ukrainian air force officials noted, “The attack is ongoing, with several enemy drones still in the airspace. Please adhere to safety regulations.” This incident underscores the ongoing aerial conflict as Ukraine continues to bolster its defensive capabilities against drone incursions.
