Drone Crash in Romania Injures Two After Explosion in Residential Building

A drone crash in the Romanian city of Galați has resulted in injuries and a fire after the device struck a residential high-rise building. The incident occurred on the 10th floor, prompting a swift response from emergency services.

The Romanian Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU) reported that the drone fell around 1:53 AM, triggering an explosion. Two individuals were injured: a woman suffered first-degree burns, while a 14-year-old boy experienced acute stress reaction. Both are receiving medical treatment and have been hospitalized.

Approximately 70 residents were evacuated from the building, with emergency responders, police, and medical personnel on-site to manage the situation. Explosive ordnance disposal teams from the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) confirmed that all explosives on the drone detonated, eliminating the risk of further explosions.

A specialized investigation team has been established, comprising officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the National Institute of Forensics, to look into the circumstances surrounding the explosion.

Prior to the drone’s fall, Ukrainian Air Force reported an attack involving a group of Russian drones targeting the Odesa region, specifically in the direction of Reni. Monitoring channels indicated that approximately 16 Shahed drones were flying towards the city. The straight-line distance from Reni to Galați is approximately 21 kilometers, as noted by both Ukrainian military sources and monitoring platforms.
