A driver in Kyiv has been charged with violating traffic safety regulations following a car accident that resulted in the deaths of four individuals. The incident occurred in the Solomianskyi district, as confirmed by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
The driver, operating a Mercedes-Benz, was reportedly speeding on Chokolivskyi Boulevard when he lost control of the vehicle on a curve, crashing into an underground pedestrian passage where several people were present.
According to law enforcement reports, the collision resulted in the immediate deaths of four pedestrians, including two police officers, a woman, and a 12-year-old boy. Additionally, three other individuals sustained injuries in the incident.
The driver himself suffered injuries that are not life-threatening and is currently under police guard in a hospital. Authorities have confirmed that he was sober at the time of the accident.
Records indicate that the driver has a history of traffic violations, having been penalized five times for speeding and receiving five additional fines for other traffic infractions since January 2025. In total, he has accumulated ten penalties over the past 18 months.
Alongside the charge, the driver has been presented with a request for pre-trial detention without the option of bail. If convicted of causing the fatal accident, he could face a prison sentence of up to ten years, along with a driving ban for up to three years.
