In Kremenchuk, a city in the Poltava region of Ukraine, authorities have apprehended a 17-year-old local resident who was allegedly planning a terrorist attack. The arrest was made by prosecutors in collaboration with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), following an investigation that revealed the teenager’s involvement in a plot to use homemade explosives.
According to the investigation, the student, who is in the 11th grade, became involved with a representative of the Russian special services while searching for easy money on the messaging platform Telegram. He agreed to carry out a task assigned to him.
The teenager received coordinates via the messaging app and collected a package containing materials needed for the construction of explosives. Following instructions from his handler, he purchased additional substances and assembled two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in a garage.
On the night of April 17, he placed one device near the entrance of a local police station and the other under a tree nearby. Law enforcement officials detained him shortly after he set the explosives, thereby preventing potential casualties.
As a result of the investigation, the teenager has been charged with an attempted terrorist act, as outlined in the Ukrainian Criminal Code. He is currently in custody as the legal process unfolds.
