In contrast, the ratio of Ukrainian to Russian losses is estimated at 1 to 5 or 1 to 6.
International Isolation of Russia: The war has resulted in Russia becoming increasingly dependent on China and seeking assistance from North Korea for the first time in its history. Sanctions against Russia are expected to remain until justice is achieved for Ukraine.
Framework for Ending the War: Zelensky has suggested a bilateral approach to conclude the conflict, proposing a meeting of leaders that could take place in Switzerland, Turkey, or Arab nations. He emphasized that the current front line should serve as the starting point for diplomatic efforts.
Ceasefire and Humanitarian Exchange: Ukraine is prepared to implement a complete ceasefire during negotiations, with the United States potentially monitoring the process. Zelensky remarked that the war has increasingly become a burden for Russia, stating, “Almost half of your 26 years in power have been spent at war with Ukraine. Regardless of your rhetoric about NATO or geopolitics, this war is your personal choice—one without a legitimate cause. This is how history will remember it.”
Future Plans and Russian Strategy: Zelensky noted that Russian military leadership is contemplating extending the conflict into 2027 and 2028, relying on ballistic capabilities and attempting to involve Belarus while manipulating scenarios in Transnistria. He cautioned that continued aggression would lead to significant consequences for Russia.
Dependence on Allies and Consequences: The shift of hostilities into Russian territory has forced Russia to seek support from North Korea, marking a significant historical precedent. Zelensky underscored that Russia is now entirely reliant on China, a situation unprecedented in its history.
He warned Russian leadership that if the war does not conclude, they may have to fight for their own survival, stating, “This is not a threat from me or Ukraine; it is a fact of Russian history that you know well: when Russia grows weary, changes occur.”
Diplomatic Venue and European Involvement: Zelensky highlighted that the current front line should be the basis for initiating diplomatic discussions. He indicated that potential meeting locations should not be limited to Moscow or Kyiv, suggesting countries traditionally involved in peace negotiations, such as Switzerland or Turkey.
He reiterated the necessity of European involvement, stating that Europe possesses the capacity to influence the situation. Zelensky emphasized that both Ukraine and Russia require security guarantees, asserting, “We believe the United States should be involved in the process, as this could shape the new security architecture in our region.”
