Ukrainian Anti-Corruption Bureau Seeks Extradition of Businessman in Major Scandal

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has initiated the extradition process for businessman Timur Mindich in connection with the “Midas” case. NABU officials have submitted all necessary materials to the Office of the Prosecutor General for this purpose.

According to NABU spokesperson Abakumov, the prosecutor’s office has yet to sign the extradition request, despite the documents being under review for two weeks. He expressed hope for a prompt endorsement of the request.

Abakumov elaborated that extraditing individuals from Israel presents significant challenges, requiring the provision of comprehensive evidence from the entire criminal case. “We have prepared and translated a substantial volume of evidence into their language to substantiate our suspicions,” he stated.

Timur Mindich, a Ukrainian businessman and former co-owner of the production studio “Kvartal 95,” is currently wanted in connection with a large-scale corruption scandal in the energy sector, referred to as “Mindichgate” or the “Midas operation.” In November 2025, just hours before law enforcement raids, Mindich left Ukraine. Journalists later located him in Israel, where he described the case as a “media issue” and denied any wrongdoing.

NABU uncovered a criminal group involving officials and businesspeople in November of the previous year. This group allegedly used their official connections to control staffing decisions, procurement processes, and financial flows within the company.

Investigators found that members of the group accepted kickbacks from contractors associated with “Energoatom.” The illicit funds were subsequently laundered through a specialized office.

The NABU is pursuing the extradition of Timur Mindich, a businessman linked to a significant corruption case in Ukraine's energy sector. Despite submitting necessary documentation, the Office of the Prosecutor General has not yet approved the request, complicating the extradition process.
