Ukraine Seeks Resumption of Trilateral Talks with U.S. and Europe

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed optimism regarding the potential resumption of meaningful trilateral negotiations involving Ukraine, the United States, and European partners in the coming weeks. This development follows ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at addressing security cooperation and relations with Russia.

Zelensky noted that Ukraine has maintained strong communication channels with the U.S. on both security and diplomatic fronts. He stated, “If we can return to substantive trilateral communication in the coming weeks and involve Europeans, it would be the right outcome.”

The President emphasized Ukraine’s readiness to take necessary steps towards this goal, adding, “I expect that our partners will also be prepared and that the Russians will not shy away from discussions.”

It is important to recall that the first round of trilateral talks between Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia took place on January 24 in Abu Dhabi, reportedly concluding with a constructive atmosphere. A second round followed in February, after which discussions shifted to Geneva. However, peace negotiations have been sidelined due to the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict, with significant differences remaining regarding the situation in the Donetsk region.

On May 7, Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, held a meeting in the U.S. with special representatives of former President Trump, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The key focus of this meeting was the humanitarian track and the revitalization of the diplomatic process.

Ukrainian President Zelensky is hopeful for the revival of trilateral negotiations involving the U.S. and Europe, emphasizing readiness for dialogue with Russia. Previous rounds of talks have faced challenges, but diplomatic efforts continue to evolve.
