Ukraine is actively preparing its energy infrastructure for the upcoming heating season, with a focus on ensuring reliable electricity and heating for all citizens. President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the importance of readiness, stating that communities lagging behind schedule will face personnel changes.
Efforts are underway across all regions for repairs and restoration, alongside initiatives for alternative energy generation and strengthening energy ties with partners. Zelensky noted that every city, including Kyiv, which faced significant challenges last winter, must have a reserve in place.
The president stressed that people must have access to electricity and heating regardless of circumstances. He linked Ukraine’s resilience and military successes against Russian attacks to a push for diplomatic solutions from the aggressor.
A meeting has been scheduled for Friday, May 1, involving government officials, military leaders, local authorities, and energy companies to address any delays in work schedules, additional funding needs, and new generation projects. Zelensky stated, “If necessary, we will convene the National Security and Defense Council. If personnel decisions are required, we will make them. The responsibility for winter preparations is personal.”
Additionally, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko presented a plan to safeguard water supply for the upcoming heating season. The Cabinet has allocated over 22 billion hryvnias to protect 576 key facilities, with 26 separate projects for water utilities in 10 communities totaling 12.7 billion hryvnias.
Ukraine is ramping up efforts to ensure its energy sector is ready for the winter heating season, focusing on repairs, alternative energy, and community preparedness. President Zelensky has outlined a proactive approach, emphasizing accountability and the need for strategic meetings to address any shortfalls.
