U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated that military strikes against Iran could resume if a comprehensive agreement regarding Iran’s nuclear program is not reached. This statement comes as negotiations between Washington and Tehran are set to take place soon.
In an interview with The New York Times, Trump expressed his willingness to revert to military options concerning Iran if a resolution regarding the nuclear issue remains elusive. He emphasized that the possibility of renewed strikes is on the table should the diplomatic efforts fail.
Trump also made critical remarks about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing him as “a very tough person” and asserting that the Israeli leader should be grateful to the U.S. for its role in curbing Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
The president warned that if Iran were to acquire nuclear weapons, it would pose an existential threat to Jerusalem. He reiterated that this is why Washington continues to push for an agreement that would prevent Tehran from developing a nuclear arsenal.
Trump’s recent comments come amid ongoing negotiations between the U.S. and Iran, which have shown some progress but have yet to yield a definitive agreement. Despite optimism from the White House, Iranian officials have previously stated that they have not yet made a final decision regarding the proposed terms.
In recent weeks, Trump has repeatedly urged Israel to refrain from conducting further strikes against Iran to avoid jeopardizing diplomatic efforts. Nevertheless, he has warned that if negotiations fail, the U.S. is prepared to consider more stringent measures against Tehran.
On the same day, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted strikes in the southern suburbs of Beirut, an action that drew criticism from Trump.
