Trump Proposes Destruction of Iran’s Enriched Uranium Amid Ongoing Negotiations

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans for the destruction of Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium, outlining several potential methods for its disposal. The president emphasized the importance of a coordinated approach with Iran in this process.

According to Trump, one option involves transferring the uranium to the United States for destruction. However, he indicated that a preferable scenario would involve the material being eliminated either on-site in Iran or at another mutually agreed location. He stated, “Enriched uranium (nuclear dust!) will either be immediately sent to the U.S. for disposal back home, or, preferably, destroyed on-site or at another acceptable location in coordination with the Islamic Republic of Iran, with the Atomic Energy Commission or its equivalent witnessing the process and event.”

The discussions between the U.S. and Iran are ongoing, facilitated by intermediaries. Recently, tensions escalated with threats of renewed military action, but Trump opted to pause attacks due to progress in diplomatic efforts.

Currently, both parties are working on a memorandum of understanding aimed primarily at halting hostilities. If an agreement is reached, a period of 30 to 60 days will follow, during which the countries intend to finalize a peace agreement. Critical issues, including nuclear concerns, are expected to be addressed in these negotiations.

Reports indicate that Trump has set a timeline of approximately one week to finalize the memorandum. Sources suggest that the agreement is nearly complete, with 95% of the terms agreed upon. Additionally, the memorandum is expected to include provisions for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Furthermore, CBS News has reported that Iran has allegedly consented to the disposal of its highly enriched uranium, marking a significant step in the negotiations.
