Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico plans to address the issue of compensation for military equipment provided to Ukraine during an upcoming meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. This announcement follows a recent summit involving the European Union and Western Balkan nations held in Montenegro.
Fico emphasized the financial challenges his country faces, stating, “This is a problem of acute financial resource shortages, as funds that were meant for other purposes have been redirected to Ukraine.” His remarks highlight the ongoing discussions among EU member states regarding support for Ukraine amidst the war with Russia.
Additionally, Fico mentioned his intentions to discuss the format of the Visegrad Group, which includes Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. He expressed hope that, following Slovakia’s assumption of the group’s presidency in July, the V4 would evolve into a V4+ format, incorporating key EU representatives in future negotiations.
