Russia Launches Major Attack on Ukraine, Macron Condemns Aggression

In a significant escalation of hostilities, Russia executed a large-scale combined assault on Ukraine, deploying drones and missiles against civilian targets. This attack, described by French President Emmanuel Macron as a demonstration of Moscow’s hypocrisy and weakness, marks the most extensive strike in the past four years.

During the night of May 14, Russian forces unleashed a barrage of 56 missiles and 675 drones across various regions of Ukraine, including the capital, Kyiv. Reports indicate substantial damage, particularly in Kyiv and its surrounding areas.

Macron criticized the Russian government for its actions, stating that the attack further exacerbates the severity of its aggression. He emphasized that such strikes against civilians reveal Russia’s inability to conclude the ongoing conflict. “Russia shows its hypocrisy in negotiating a fragile ceasefire in recent days,” he remarked.

The French leader reiterated France’s unwavering support for Ukraine, affirming the country’s commitment to efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace that ensures both Ukraine’s security and the safety of Europe.

In total, over the course of May 13 and 14, Russian forces utilized 1,567 drones and 56 missiles in their offensive. Ukrainian defense systems reportedly intercepted 94% of the drones and 73% of the missiles.

As a result of the attacks, Kyiv has reported seven fatalities and 39 injuries, with at least 20 individuals still unaccounted for.

Russia's recent extensive attack on Ukraine has drawn sharp condemnation from French President Emmanuel Macron, who labeled the assault a sign of Moscow's weakness. The strike, involving numerous drones and missiles, has resulted in significant casualties and damage, further complicating the ongoing conflict.
