The Pentagon has expressed increasing alarm over Israel’s alleged espionage activities targeting the United States, prompting a significant elevation in the counterintelligence threat level.
Recent weeks have seen the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency release a new assessment of counterintelligence threats, coinciding with heightened tensions between Israel and the U.S. regarding actions in the ongoing conflict with Iran.
Sources revealed that an internal communication from the intelligence agency, reviewed by a current official, indicated that the threat level concerning Israel has been raised to “critical.” This decision stems from Pentagon observations that Israel is reportedly intensifying efforts to monitor senior U.S. officials to gather insights on internal discussions and decisions made by the Trump administration concerning Middle Eastern conflicts.
According to one official, the intelligence assessment includes a seven-page document accompanied by diagrams. It suggests that Israel’s capabilities for both human intelligence gathering and technical information collection are at a “critical level.” Furthermore, the document outlines several specific incidents that have heightened U.S. concerns.
In response, a representative from the Israeli embassy in Washington dismissed the allegations, asserting that claims of Israeli espionage against the U.S. are “absolutely unfounded.”
He emphasized, “Israel does not collect intelligence on American organizations, let alone U.S. government officials. Israeli intelligence efforts are focused on its adversaries, not allies. Any contrary assertions are either baseless or politically motivated.”
The Pentagon has declined to comment on the matter, while a White House representative stated that the narrative is singular and originates from an individual lacking understanding of the situation.
The Pentagon has raised the counterintelligence threat level regarding Israel amid concerns of espionage activities targeting U.S. officials. Israeli representatives have denied these allegations, asserting their intelligence efforts focus on adversaries.
