In the wake of recent statements by U.S. President Donald Trump after the G7 summit, Russian officials have accused European leaders of influencing Trump with what they term “harmful ideas” regarding the war in Ukraine.
This assertion comes from Yuri Ushakov, an aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin, as reported by Russian media outlets. Ushakov remarked, “The topic of Ukraine was actively discussed during the G7 meeting. It can be assumed that Trump was filled with ideas that are not useful, if not harmful.”
Ushakov also noted that since the conclusion of the G7 summit, the Kremlin has not engaged in any communication with the Trump administration.
During the summit, which took place on June 16, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was present alongside Trump. Following their discussions, the G7 nations released a joint statement outlining their consensus on several issues related to Ukraine.
Among the agreements reached was a commitment to enhance military support for Ukraine, specifically through increased deliveries of air defense systems, additional anti-aircraft systems, and interceptor missiles.
On the evening of June 15, G7 leaders gathered for dinner, where they collectively urged Trump to recognize that Russia was losing ground on the battlefield while Ukraine was achieving victories. The primary message conveyed was that a “wounded” Moscow is acting out of desperation.
Additionally, Zelensky personally presented Trump with photographs of the damaged Uspensky Cathedral, which left a significant impression on the U.S. President.
The following day, Trump expressed strong support for Ukraine in the G7’s joint declaration, commending the country’s progress in its conflict with Russia. Reports also indicated that Trump intends to approach American defense companies about producing weapons under license in Europe and Ukraine.
Following the G7 summit, Russian officials have criticized European leaders for allegedly influencing U.S. President Donald Trump on Ukraine. The summit resulted in commitments to bolster military support for Ukraine amid ongoing tensions.
