Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced a directive for Israeli forces to extend their control over 70% of the Gaza Strip. This decision follows a significant military operation initiated after Hamas’s incursion into Israel on October 7, 2023.
Netanyahu stated, “We have reached 50%, then moved to 60%. My task is to proceed further, let’s act step by step. First of all, to 70%. Let’s start from there. We are applying pressure on Hamas from all sides. We will deal with the remnants later.” His comments reflect the ongoing military strategy aimed at weakening Hamas’s influence in the region.
Since the onset of the Israeli offensive, which began in response to the October attack, Israeli forces have maintained control over more than half of the Gaza enclave. This military presence has resulted in significant humanitarian challenges for the local population.
Approximately 2 million Palestinians, many of whom are displaced, now find themselves confined to a small area, often living in tents amid the ruins of destroyed cities. The humanitarian situation has raised concerns among international observers.
In October 2025, a ceasefire was brokered by the United States, but it ultimately failed to halt Israeli attacks or achieve the disarmament of Hamas. According to the terms of the agreement, Israeli forces were expected to retreat to a designated boundary known as the “yellow line,” with a more prolonged withdrawal anticipated thereafter.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered an expansion of military control in Gaza to 70%, following a significant offensive against Hamas. The ongoing conflict has severely impacted the local population, with many Palestinians facing dire humanitarian conditions.
