Xiaomi Set to Challenge Premium Foldable Market with New Device

Xiaomi appears poised to introduce a revolutionary foldable smartphone, aiming to compete directly with offerings from Apple and Samsung. Recent leaks from the HyperOS interface suggest a unique design for this upcoming device.

The primary source of information comes from an update to the Xiaomi Hyper Launcher app, where enthusiasts discovered nine images of a user interface tailored for an unconventional display format. Analysis of these graphics indicates that the device’s screen will be significantly wider when unfolded and notably slimmer when folded compared to the current flagship, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4.

Insiders have noted that the proportions of this new display closely resemble those of the Huawei Pura X Max, hinting at a shift in design philosophy. Xiaomi seems to be moving away from elongated screens in favor of a broader, more user-friendly format that could be operated with one hand.

While official specifications remain under wraps, industry insiders are already speculating about the device’s features. The smartphone may be branded as the Xiaomi 18 Fold, a departure from the anticipated Mix Fold 5, aligning with the company’s strategy to synchronize its flagship series numbering.

In terms of camera capabilities, the new model is expected to feature a robust triple-camera system developed in collaboration with Leica, with the primary sensor boasting an impressive 200-megapixel resolution. Additionally, the device may be powered by a new proprietary chipset, tentatively named Xring O3, indicating Xiaomi’s efforts to reduce reliance on external chip suppliers.

However, analysts suggest that Xiaomi does not plan to release the foldable 18 Fold on the global market, potentially limiting its availability to China. On a brighter note, the traditional Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max models are likely to make their official debut in Europe.

Xiaomi is gearing up to launch a new foldable smartphone, potentially named the Xiaomi 18 Fold, featuring a wide display and advanced camera technology. While it may remain exclusive to China, the brand's traditional models are set for a European release.
