In May 2026, Ukraine experienced a notable rise in consumer prices, with increases reported across nearly all regions of the country.
According to the State Statistics Service, consumer prices rose by an average of 0.9% compared to April 2026. No region reported a decrease in the cost of goods and services.
The most significant price hike was observed in Mykolaiv Oblast, where prices surged by 1.6%. Kirovohrad Oblast followed closely with a 1.3% increase.
Other regions that recorded above-average price increases include Kherson (+1.2%), Ivano-Frankivsk (+1.1%), and Zhytomyr, Rivne, Kharkiv, and Luhansk Oblasts, all registering a 1.0% rise.
Several regions, including Kyiv, Cherkasy, Chernivtsi, Zakarpattia, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, and Luhansk, reported inflation matching the national average of 0.9%.
In contrast, the smallest increases were seen in Lviv Oblast, which recorded a 0.6% rise, along with Volyn and Ivano-Frankivsk Oblasts, both also at 0.6%.
Long-term trends indicate significant annual price increases in key categories. Fish and fish products have seen a staggering rise of over 21%.
Bread and bakery products increased between 15.5% and 19.2%, while sunflower oil rose nearly 19%. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products saw an increase of around 16%, and transportation services experienced a roughly 20% hike due to rising fuel and transport costs.
Additionally, from January to May 2026, Ukraine significantly increased its imports of dairy products, with the highest growth noted in shipments of whey, butter, and cheese, predominantly sourced from Poland.
