Samsung Enhances Smart View with Privacy Features and Voice Control

Samsung has integrated the Smart View tool into its One UI, enabling users to seamlessly transfer content from smartphones to televisions. The latest update includes two key features aimed at enhancing user privacy and transforming the smartphone into a central control hub.

One of the primary concerns with standard screen mirroring is that it displays everything occurring on the smartphone’s screen, which can lead to unintended exposure of personal messages, notifications, or passwords to others in the room. To address this issue, Smart View now offers a ‘Cast app only’ mode.

How to use the feature:

During an active casting session, users can tap the floating Smart View widget on their Galaxy device. From the dropdown menu, they should select the option to cast a specific app. This allows only selected media to be displayed on the television, while the smartphone owner can continue using other applications, responding to messages, or checking emails privately.

Additionally, Smart View facilitates media control through Samsung’s voice assistant, Bixby. This feature reduces the need for a traditional TV remote, although controlling playback directly from the smartphone screen can be inconvenient while relaxing.

Samsung Galaxy users can utilize Bixby for remote control of the larger screen, even if the television is not part of a smart home system. To set up basic controls, users need to press and hold the power button on their smartphone and activate Bixby, following the on-screen instructions.

For those who prefer alternative voice assistants, the smartphone settings allow users to change the default assistant to Google Assistant or Alexa through the menu path: ‘Apps’ -> ‘Default apps’ -> ‘Digital assistant.’

Once activated, voice commands spoken into the smartphone’s microphone will automatically control the media stream being cast via Smart View.

Samsung's latest Smart View update introduces features that enhance user privacy and allow for voice control of media playback. These additions aim to provide a more secure and convenient experience for users casting content from their smartphones to televisions.
