Naftogaz Reaches Agreement on Debt Restructuring Amid Ongoing Attacks

The Naftogaz Group has secured a preliminary agreement with a special committee of eurobond holders to extend the repayment terms of its debt until 2032-2033. This restructuring involves a total debt of €1.2 billion.

According to Naftogaz’s chairman, Oleksiy Koretskyi, this development is crucial for the financial stability of the group, particularly in the context of ongoing conflict and persistent assaults on energy infrastructure. He highlighted that in 2025 alone, Russian forces executed 229 strikes against Naftogaz facilities, surpassing the total number of attacks recorded over the previous three years of the war.

Since the beginning of 2026, the company has faced over 170 attacks on its infrastructure. These assaults have severely impacted Naftogaz’s operations, leading to significant damage and a reduction in domestic gas production. Consequently, the company has had to rely on imported gas supplies, further straining its financial resources.

Despite these challenges, Koretskyi emphasized that Naftogaz has maintained operational stability and continues to fulfill its obligations to the state and consumers. The company anticipates that the completion of the debt restructuring will enable it to allocate more funds towards the restoration of damaged infrastructure, stockpiling gas reserves, and preparing for the upcoming heating season.

Ongoing attacks on Naftogaz’s infrastructure have been a persistent issue. Notably, on May 29, Russian forces targeted facilities across several regions, with the most significant damage occurring in Kharkiv and Sumy oblasts. Earlier, on May 20, missile strikes were reported against energy infrastructure in Chernihiv region.

Naftogaz has reached a significant agreement to restructure €1.2 billion in debt, extending repayment terms amid ongoing attacks on its infrastructure. The company aims to stabilize operations and focus on restoring facilities and preparing for future energy demands.
