China Opens Market for Ukrainian Wheat Flour Imports After Prolonged Negotiations

China has officially permitted the import of Ukrainian wheat flour, marking a significant development after three years of negotiations. This agreement was announced by Serhiy Tkachuk, the head of Ukraine’s State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection.

Tkachuk shared the news via a post on Facebook, stating, “Today, I signed an international agreement with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China in Ukraine, Mr. Ma Shengkui, which officially opens the export of Ukrainian wheat flour to China.”

The agreement includes a protocol detailing the inspection, phytosanitary, and sanitary requirements for wheat flour. The oversight of these protocols will be managed by Ukraine’s food safety authority, while China’s General Administration of Customs will handle its side of the agreement.

Additionally, the approved document outlines clear and transparent standards for all stages of production and export, from wheat cultivation to the delivery of finished products to the Chinese market. This ensures that both countries adhere to agreed-upon quality and safety measures.

Discussions regarding the potential export of flour to China have been ongoing since at least 2023, reflecting a commitment to enhancing agricultural trade between the two nations.

The recent agreement between Ukraine and China allows for the import of Ukrainian wheat flour, concluding three years of negotiations. This development aims to establish clear standards for production and export, enhancing agricultural trade between the two countries.
