Recent military operations by Ukraine have targeted critical supply routes used by Russian forces, potentially impacting their operational readiness. A report from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) outlines the implications of these strikes on the battlefield.
In the early hours of June 11, Ukrainian forces conducted a series of attacks on key infrastructure, including six bridges and major roads connecting the occupied Kherson region to Crimea. The targeted structures include:
- The Chongar Bridge, struck on June 7 and June 9;
- The bridge between Henichesk and the Arabat Spit, damaged on June 10;
- The bridge over the North Crimean Canal near Preobrazhenka, damaged on June 11;
- The bridge over the North Crimean Canal near Myrne, damaged on June 11;
- The road bridge towards Perekop – Armyansk, damaged on June 11;
- The bridge in the vicinity of Stavky, damaged on June 11.
According to ISW analysts, these strikes reflect an intensified campaign by Ukrainian forces to disrupt Russian logistics in southern Ukraine. By targeting these supply routes, Ukraine aims to hinder Russia’s ability to move resources safely from southwestern Russia to occupied Crimea.
The continuation of these operations is expected to have a cascading effect on battlefield dynamics, complicating Russia’s preparations for offensive actions.
Furthermore, ISW reports that the Russian occupation authorities are struggling to address a fuel shortage in Crimea, particularly in Sevastopol, which appears to be a direct consequence of Ukraine’s strikes on Russian logistical and energy infrastructure.
The report also highlights that Ukrainian Defense Forces have gained a tactical advantage through the use of drones, which not only disrupt logistics but also contribute to increased Russian casualties on the battlefield, coinciding with a decline in recruitment within the Russian military.
Ukrainian military operations have intensified, targeting key supply routes to disrupt Russian logistics in occupied territories. This strategy may complicate Russia's operational capabilities as it faces challenges in maintaining fuel supplies and troop levels.
