Ukrainian military officials have reported a successful strike on a Russian corvette of the Project 20380 class during an operation aimed at St. Petersburg. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that the attack occurred at a Baltic Fleet base near Kronstadt.
Initial assessments indicate that the corvette, identified as the “Boyskiy,” sustained significant damage, with a large fire confirmed on board. The extent of the damage and casualties is still being evaluated, according to military sources.
Project 20380 corvettes are designed for various combat roles, including anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine operations, and air defense, as well as conducting strikes against coastal targets. These vessels are integral to the Russian Navy’s capabilities in the near-seas region.
Robert Brovdi, commander of Ukraine’s drone forces, was among the first to announce the strike, noting that the corvette was armed with missile systems.
Despite the claims from Ukrainian sources, Russian military leadership has not acknowledged the incident. Independent verification of the attack’s impact remains unconfirmed.
As of June 3, the Ukrainian General Staff reported that the Russian military has lost 33 ships and boats since the onset of the full-scale war against Ukraine. The ongoing conflict has seen various military and civilian targets within Russia and occupied territories come under aerial attack.
In addition to the corvette strike, other significant targets in Russia have been hit, including an oil terminal in St. Petersburg and facilities in Tambov linked to arms production. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed these strikes coincided with the opening of an international economic forum in St. Petersburg.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukrainian forces have conducted numerous airstrikes aimed at diminishing the combat capabilities of Russian occupation forces and pressuring Russia to cease its military aggression against Ukraine.
Ukrainian forces have reportedly struck a Russian corvette near St. Petersburg, causing significant damage. This incident is part of a broader strategy to weaken Russian military capabilities amid ongoing conflict.
