Ukrainian Drone Strikes Target Moscow’s Angstrom Facility and Other Locations

On May 16 and into the early hours of May 17, Ukrainian drone strikes targeted the Angstrom facility located in the city of Zelenograd, part of Moscow. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed this information on the evening of May 17.

Despite its geographical location outside the Moscow Ring Road, Zelenograd is administratively considered a part of Moscow. The Angstrom facility specializes in high-tech products and microchips for precision weaponry, and reports indicated that a fire was detected on site.

The Ukrainian military utilized several indigenous drone models for the operation, including the RS-1 Bars, FP-1 Firepoint, and BARS-SM Gladiator. The General Staff expressed gratitude to various units involved, including the 412th Separate Brigade of Drone Systems and the 107th Reactive Artillery Brigade.

In addition to the Angstrom facility, the strikes also affected the Solnechnogorsk pumping station, a critical component of the oil pipeline system around Moscow, which plays a vital role in the storage and transfer of large quantities of fuel, including for the Russian military.

Other targeted sites included a command post in the Bunge area of Donetsk Oblast and drone control points in the Dvorichna area of Kharkiv Oblast, as well as locations in Kherson and Donetsk Oblasts. The General Staff also reported strikes on concentrations of enemy personnel in various regions, including Myrne in Donetsk Oblast and Krasnohirske in Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously confirmed the attacks on Russian and occupied territories, describing them as justified responses to Russia’s ongoing military actions against Ukraine.

Since the onset of the full-scale invasion by Russia, various sites within Russia have been subjected to aerial strikes, with oil refineries often being primary targets. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has consistently stated that these operations aim to diminish the combat capabilities of Russian occupation forces and compel Russia to cease its armed aggression against Ukraine.

Ukrainian drone strikes on May 16-17 targeted the Angstrom facility in Moscow and other strategic locations, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict. The operations aimed to disrupt Russian military capabilities and were confirmed by President Zelenskyy as justified responses to ongoing hostilities.
