Ukraine Unveils Advanced Underwater Drone ‘Sea Trident’ Capable of Long-Range Operations

Ukraine has introduced a cutting-edge underwater drone named Sea Trident, designed to stealthily target strategic assets over vast distances. This innovation could significantly alter the balance of power in the Black Sea region.

The drone was showcased by the Ukrainian company Global Mark at a prominent defense exhibition in France, emphasizing its capacity for fully autonomous operations.

Operating beneath the surface, the Sea Trident is engineered to evade enemy radar, allowing for covert entry into hostile maritime territories. It can transport payloads of up to 1,000 kilograms, making it a formidable weapon against large vessels and coastal infrastructure.

Its capabilities extend beyond mere explosive attacks; the developers have envisioned a wide array of potential applications for the drone.

Key missions for the Sea Trident include:

  • Executing precise strike operations;
  • Logistics and delivery of specialized cargo;
  • Intercepting enemy submarines;
  • Neutralizing underwater threats.

This drone is equipped with fully autonomous control systems and adaptive navigation, enabling it to chart its own course and make decisions while on a mission.

In terms of technical specifications, the Sea Trident stands out among its peers. It boasts an impressive operational range of 3,218 kilometers (2,000 miles), allowing for extended missions without the need for additional support vessels.

Key specifications of the project include:

  • Weight: 10,000 kg;
  • Length: 10 meters;
  • Width: 2 meters;
  • Height: 1.5 meters.

The drone achieves a maximum speed of 18.5 km/h, with a cruising speed slightly lower at 11 km/h. It operates effectively at depths of up to 60 meters, which is optimal for coastal areas, allowing it to remain undetected by surveillance systems focused on surface targets.

In addition to the Sea Trident, Ukraine is developing other drones for various military applications. A new drone named Wardog TRN is set to address critical communication challenges in areas plagued by powerful enemy jammers or difficult terrain.

Furthermore, the Dancer 4.5.0, a high-speed intercept drone capable of exceeding 450 km/h, has been introduced. It can engage targets at altitudes up to 4.8 kilometers and has an operational range of 30 kilometers.

Recent reports also revealed that Ukraine has completed the development of its first glide bomb, known as the KAB ‘Aligner,’ after nearly a year and a half of work.

Ukraine's Sea Trident drone represents a significant advancement in underwater military technology, capable of long-range operations and stealthy infiltration. This development, along with other emerging drones, showcases Ukraine's commitment to enhancing its defense capabilities amid ongoing regional tensions.
