The Ukrainian government has successfully repatriated the remains of 528 individuals, reportedly Ukrainian soldiers, according to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
This operation was made possible through the collaborative efforts of various agencies, including the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights. The headquarters expressed gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross for their assistance in facilitating these repatriation efforts.
The last exchange of remains occurred on April 9, when Ukraine received 1,000 bodies, also claimed by Russia to belong to Ukrainian defenders.
As of February 26, it was reported that over 90,000 individuals are considered missing under special circumstances in Ukraine, encompassing both military personnel and civilians, including children. This figure was shared by Arthur Dobroserdov, the Commissioner for Persons Missing Under Special Circumstances.
Since May 2023, Ukraine has implemented a Unified Register of Missing Persons, which consolidates information on all servicemen who are currently being searched for.
