Ukraine Introduces New Military Service Contracts with Defined Terms

Starting today, June 15, Ukraine has implemented three new types of military service contracts, allowing civilians, mobilized individuals, and current service members to enlist under specific terms.

Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced the changes via Telegram, stating that these contracts are now available for various military roles.

The first contract type, the Infantry Assault Contract, is designed for personnel engaged in frontline combat. This includes infantry soldiers, assault troops, combat medics, and other essential roles. The duration of this contract is set at 14 months, after which individuals will receive a six-month deferment from mobilization. The average monthly salary for this role ranges from 300,000 to 460,000 hryvnias.

The second type, the Combat Contract, is aimed at service members facing higher risks in their duties. Compensation varies based on the level of danger associated with their tasks, particularly for those operating near combat zones. This contract is available to drone pilots, ground robotics operators, electronic warfare specialists, and artillery personnel, with a service term of 24 months and a similar six-month deferment post-contract. Monthly payments for this contract can range from 30,000 to 120,000 hryvnias.

Lastly, the Basic Contract offers enhanced base pay and the option to transition to a combat position later. This contract is tailored for support roles such as clerks, accountants, and cooks, with a service duration of 24 months and a six-month deferment following completion. The minimum monthly salary starts at 30,000 hryvnias, with a total range of 30,000 to 70,000 hryvnias.

Fedorov outlined several methods for transitioning to these new contracts:

  • Through the “Army+” app: Submit a report in the “Services” section under “Contracts” and track its status within the app.
  • Via military unit: File a report for a new contract through the personnel department of the respective military unit.
  • Using “Reserve+”: In the “Vacancies — New Contracts” section, select a position and submit an application to the unit, after which a recruiter will reach out.
  • Through a recruitment center: Consult about service conditions, choose a position, and begin the contract process.

Additionally, Fedorov confirmed that new payments for June will be issued to all military personnel in July, regardless of whether they have signed new contracts.

Ukraine has launched three distinct military service contracts, each with specific terms and compensation structures aimed at enhancing recruitment. These contracts cater to various roles, offering defined service periods and financial incentives, while also providing pathways for current service members to transition into new agreements.
